out like a lamb

In the beautiful weather yesterday (rare for Oregon in March) a large troupe of family (and a couple of friends) spent some time at Salem's waterfront carousel and Multnomah Falls near Portland. It'd been a really long time since I'd been on a hike with my family, but the extra effort to get to the top of the falls paid off with a dangerously lovely view. I'll add a few pictures soon of the 600 ft+ drop. It was a very good day.

first round is on display!

The first six items are up now, including four hand-bound books and two new card designs. With my little sister in town for the next couple of days, it'll be a week before I get anything else up, but I hope you find these photos intriguing!

a stormy october camping trip

The storm Friday night as we were driving down the coast highway was severe enough that we couldn't see very far in front of the car. Luckily, we made it to an unknown campground at night, in the rain, safe to our yurt. Fates conspired against us (four roads marked with the same name, a combination lock on our yurt that refused to reveal the magic of "opening", and camp hosts who all fell asleep before 9 p.m.). But we made it, and the storm threw a fit about it. Next morning, at the beach, clumps of 20-foot-long seaweed and other flotsam were scattered down the beach. We decided to make art.

In this next one, you can see the seaweed scattered down the beach behind me for miles . . .

I decided to try to weave it into a square-bottomed basket.

But I ended up with more of a dream-catcher-looking thing instead.

Shawn's whip, on the other hand, was very whippy! And made from a single piece of seaweed that was over 30 feet long.
